"Local Transportation Service Heritage Since 1909"
In 1909, Joe Hamman started transporting passengers in his horse-drawn wagon on a route delivering slab wood between Stayton and West Stayton, Oregon; Hamman Stage Lines was founded. Soon, a stage coach was added to serve the increased ridership. In 1914, a motorized vehicle (Studebaker bus) was placed in service which could carry "eleven passengers and all their baggage, even if it meant carrying the baggage on the hood". Soon after, the stage coach was retired and more motorcoaches were placed in service.
In 1935, Joe's son, Floyd, took over responsibility for managing the business and was assisted by his wife, Zoa (Goode). Over the years, service expanded and more motorcoaches were added for intercity routes and charter service. In 1937, in Portland, Oregon, S. Henry Raz, and his wife Eileen (Goode), added a school bus to their car and truck repair service; Raz Transportation was founded. Soon after, the car and truck repair service was phased out when buses were added to the growing business for school route and charter service.
During World War II, Hamman Stage Lines and Raz Transportation worked together. They provided daily route service (three shifts per day) for workers who lived in Salem and worked in the shipyards in Portland and Vancouver (Washington). After the War, the companies pursued their separate endeavors in their respective cities, Salem and Portland. In 1975, Henry "Buz" Raz, son of the founders of RAZ Transportation, took over the responsibilities, with his wife, Carolyn, of managing the family company.
In 1985, after Floyd Hamman (uncle of "Buz" Raz) retired, RAZ Transportation purchased the remaining operating assets of Hamman Stage Lines. Today, as a member of the CUSA, LLC family, the service transportation tradition continues the legacy that started in 1909.
Raz Transportation remains a locally managed company dedicated to safe, reliable, enjoyable transportation...providing charters, tours, routes, and shuttle bus service.
