Our Company
Coach America is the largest tour and charter bus operator and the second largest motorcoach service provider in the highly fragmented US surface transportation industry. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Coach America provides transportation services throughout the entire United States.
Services provided by Coach America include motorcoach charters, tours and sightseeing, commuter transportation, airport and casino shuttles, rail crew transportation and contract services for municipalities and corporations. Coach America operates the second largest fleet in the US with over 3,000 well maintained vehicles, including over 1,600 motorcoaches, primarily under the well recognized Coach America, Coach USA, American Coach Lines and Gray Line brands.
Keep a lookout on the road for a motrocoach or other transportation vehicle bearing one of our many company logos (you can see the logos here).
Coach America was formed when private equity firm Kohlberg & Company (“Kohlberg”) sponsored the acquisition of the West and South Central regions of Coach USA in 2003. Coach USA, at the time, consisted of nine regions in the US and Canada. Since the initial acquisition, Coach America has added numerous companies to it's business operations, including American Coach Lines in the South and South East, as well as Lake Front Lines of Ohio.
The Company operates in five regions across the United States through 38 business units located in 26 states, as depicted in the map below.
Coach America operates 1,623 full size motor coaches, 351 minibuses and cutaways, 902 vans and 39 trolleys. Due to the size of our fleet, tracking fleet cost is very important and we use one the of the best maintenance management programs available to assist us in planning preventive maintenance and needed repairs. One of the ways we do this is with the latest technology available, such as bar coding of parts and equipment. The mechanics at each shop location also use the latest diagnostic software to perform engine, transmission and chassis repair.
We have 37 shops and over 100 mechanics that maintain and support the Coach America fleet in 40 locations though out the US. Not only do these shops support their local fleet, they also perform repairs and maintenance on sister company vehicles. The average age of our fleet is only 7.1 years old and our planned replacement cycle will ensure our fleet average age will be maintained.
Coach America is constantly looking at new types of vehicles that will be more fuel efficient, more comfortable for our customers and more cost efficient to operate.
